The abstracts

In parallel with my figurative creations, notably through marine series and abandoned places made in oil, I push the limits of my art by venturing towards a more abstract and free-to-interpret painting. With these acrylic works I try a more manual contact with the canvas, daring marouflages, wiping, dripping, as well as the less conventional use of a broomstick and swapping oil for acrylic. Throughout my pictorial explorations, I give free rein to my creativity while refining the composition and balance of my works. Through abstract painting, I explore spontaneity and instinct. These terms develop through ideas of time and speed, for example with a fast mark or a slower mark, initial decisions and considered choices, or the treatment of errors. I explore formal elements such as color palette, shape, and composition in my body of work, continually changing direction in the next piece. I continue to follow my initial instinctive motivation, while forcing myself out of my comfort zone through different perspectives. This challenge with uncertainty is what excites me about abstract painting. Finally, an exciting motivation materializes the immaterial. With acrylic paint, I take these intangible concepts (time, speed, instinct, spontaneity) and attempt to express them through visual means. At first glance my work can evoke poetry, through colors, repetition, superpositions, and other technical means, but also through the feelings or sentimentality and beauty attached to my paintings. My works can also be interpreted politically through environmental awareness. These emotional concerns engender a sense of nostalgia.
